People, offenders, should, these, listed



Question by ezduzit571: Should these people be listed as sex offenders?

I am doing a persuasive speech on this topic and want some feed back. A 14 year old boy was charged as a sex offender for engaging in sexual activity on another child. He was 9 when the activity started and she was 6. their activity went in for 5 years.
Another boy was 17 and she was 16. They are now married with 2 children but he must still file as a sex offender.
Do these boys need to be concidered as sex offenders for the rest of their lives?

First case yes.

Second case no.

In the first case the 9/14 year old was probably going through puberty and was taking advantage of a much younger (developmentally - sexually, emotionally and socially) person. The fact that he continued it into his teens when the younger child involved was pre-pubescent is the clincher.

In the second case, I know this is the law, but those two were probably high school sweethearts and it happens all the time.

I think the law needs to distinguish between predator (even young predator) and young love.
