So I was tagged several times, and finally got around to doing it. So here goes. And if you get the tag from me, please do it tooooo!

1) My earliest memory: Being held in my mother's arms after lightning struck a tree in our yard. It was dark, the lights went out after the lightning struck, and I was terrified. The family believes that there was no way I could have remembered it happening, because I was only an infant at the time. But I remember.

2) I played three sports in high school, and none in college; the line in Joseph Heller's Catch 22 had finally caught up with me: Trophies are won by people who do things of no benefit to anyone better than everyone else. But now I play some tennis and some hoops, including the extended family's big, extremely intense Fourth of July basketball game. I used to be able to dunk, no problem, which isn't bad for a 6-foot-2 white guy.

3) Sweets. Yes. A big, big yes. High class or low brow, I pretty much love them all. Neccos and Raisnettes to Scharfenbergger and Schmidt. Bring it. Bring it all.

4) The first girl I kissed was Valerie Daino. She had long blond hair and big brown eyes. It was at night on the seventh green of the golf course at the Pequenakonck Country Club in Putnam County, New York, outside the town of Brewster, where our family had a little summer house on a lake. Valerie and I had a romance in the summers after our sixth and seventh grades, but I didn't work up the nerve to make out with her until the seventh grade, and only after considerable abuse from my friends for being chicken. ... The first girl I had sex with was Barbara Doll, and she lived on Blueberry Hill Road. Really.

5) My dryer lint is always dark blue. Why is that?

6) I watch episodes of "The Office" over and over again. My top-five favorite movies include "The Graduate" and "American Beauty." The other three kind of rotate, but sometimes include "It's a Wonderful Life," "2001, a Space Odyssey," "The Year of Living Dangerously," "Body Heat," "Groundhog Day" (I know, weird), "Lost in Translation," "Little Miss Sunshine" and "Office Space."

7) I still regularly hear from and get together with a group of guys with whom I went to grammar school, and that's a long time ago. Most of them are Republican and still live outside New York City. They think I'm a jihadist, but in San Francisco, I barely qualify as progressive.

8) My favorite people are the ones who can't help but show you who they really are.

9) The only thing I ever wanted to be was a writer. I was one, and then I became an editor. Now I want to be a photographer. I've also driven a taxi, gathered hay, worked on a road crew, sold ice cream, worked in a liquor store and been a waiter. Plus a bunch of other things, especially in the past couple of years.

10) My father died of cancer when I was about a year old.

11) I've never taken LSD. I am chicken, just like I was about kissing Valerie Daino. But I'm guessing that's the only drug you can name that I haven't at least tried.

12) I can imitate you.

13) Charismatic people have always fascinated me. Hmm; maybe that's why they're charismatic.

14) Someday I'd like to live in three places, four months a year at each spot: SF, NYC, and somewhere tropical -- Belize, Guatemala, coastal Mexico, something like that. And speaking of where to live, I used to "live" a lot more here on Flickr, but I don't like it as much anymore. What changed? Me, most likely. I've lost trust. The "truth" can be manipulated, like a layer in Photoshop. Me no like.

15) In the last couple of years, my shoe size has gone from 11 to 11.5. wtf?

16) I never rode a horse in my life until this past Christmas Day, when I finally broke my maiden. I did, however, ride cows at an early age.
